SF Metrics Meetup: Logstash | Ruby Monitoring State of the Union

Nik Wekwerth

October's SF Metrics Meetup featured Jordan Sissel from DreamHost and our very own Joe Ruscio. GitHub was the gracious host who let us use their awesome office space and also provided pizza and beverages.

For those of you who couldn't make it, here are the recordings of the talks:

Logstash - Open Source Log Management

Jordan Sissel - DreamHost

Logstash is a tool for managing events and logs. You can use it to collect logs, parse them, and store them for later use.

Ruby Monitoring State of the Union

Joseph Ruscio - Librato

This presentation discussed current state-of-the-art projects available for runtime monitoring of production Ruby code, encompassing everything from cron jobs to web-servers. Joe provided the audience with an overview of best practices and highlighted the remaining gaps. The presentation was a dry run for RubyConf 2012 - the slides and speaker notes are available on Speaker Deck.
