Fine-grained Control of Gauge Aggregation — Librato Blog

Fine-grained Control of Gauge Aggregation

We just added a new feature that (in concert with existing functionality) now provides you with complete control over how your gauges are aggregated over the dimensions of time and space (i.e. source). On the metric page for each gauge there's now a radio selector to choose whether measurements are averaged or added together as they are summarized over time:

As always, you can also configure summarization over time through our RESTful API as thesummarize_function gauge attribute. This new capability complements our existing support for configuring how multiple sources for a given metric (specified by wildcard) are aggregated on an instrument:

If you want to learn more, there's a detailed knowledge base article that describes the different controls now at your disposal and how you might leverage them based on whether you're tracking timingsrates, or counts with your gauges. Enjoy!
